Man dies and another fights for his life after police chase crash

A 25-year-old father from Bedford has died and another man is in a critical condition after the car they were travelling in overturned after a police chase.

Karl Spencer of Corby Road, died following the smash in the early hours of Friday morning.

A 20-year-old passenger, also from Bedford, remains in a life-threatening condition in Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

Two other passengers, men aged 21 and 26, from the town, were taken to Lister Hospital in Stevenage for treatment.

They were all travelling in an Audi A3 that failed to stop for police on the Leisure Park in Stevenage.

Following a pursuit the car was in collision with a lamp post on Mardley Hill in Woolmer Green at around 2.40am.

A 26-year-old Bedford man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

It’s being investigated by officers from Essex and has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
